Christian Voigt was born in Munich in 1961, later moving to Hamburg where he currently lives and operates. His secondary work location is in the south of France.
Voigt works with large-format cameras, both digital and analogue. He experiments with new camera techniques and makes the best use of the digital medium in order to strengthen his storytelling. Voigt stresses that his photography is a form of communication in and of itself, serving as a visual language in order to convey meaning.
More than simple photographs, Voigt’s images and digital fine tuning coalesce to exhibit full narratives and heightened emotion, especially through the realms of architecture and international travel. The diversity in Voigt’s subjects creates a feeling of universality, as though our access to these fantastical places and cultures is limitless.
‘My pictures are created with the camera, not on the computer,’ Voigt says, with a reference to the complicated technology and processing that goes into his creations. ‘But without the computer technology of today, the pictures couldn’t be crafted into their final form.’
Christian Voigt has been represented in solo shows and art fairs all around the globe, including Basel, Hamburg, New York, Los Angeles, London, Saint Tropez, Amsterdam, and Madrid.
