CHICAGO LITERARY
HALL OF FAME
COCKTAIL PARTY
& SILENT AUCTION
with actress, Nora Dunn

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13
7pm-10pm
On Saturday, October 13th, Hilton | Asmus Contemporary will  host the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame Silent Auction and Cocktail Party.  The non-profit organization, founded by author, Donald G. Evans, was created to celebrate Chicago's rich and diverse literary traditions.

Actress and comedian, Nora Dunn will be the celebrity guest for this year's event.

The evening will include not only an array of hors d'oeuvres and desserts from restaurants around the city, but also opportunities for guests to bid on items ranging from signed, first-edition books and theater tickets, to restaurant gift certificates and much more.  As the only substantial fundraiser of the year, money raised at the event will help fund their upcoming third annual induction ceremony, their newly formed Chicago Book Club, and many more events to celebrate Chicago's vast literary culture.

RICK GARCIA
COLORS OF OM

Picture
An official artist of the GRAMMY AWARDS three years in a row and an "ABSOLUT" artist of the 90's, Cuban-American artist Rick Garcia,  a native of Miami, will fly to Chicago for a one man show at HILTON|ASMUS CONTEMPORARY on November 2,

After years of attending the Art Institute of Miami, where he refined his artistic vision in drawing and painting, he was soon earning an income from published illustrations. Garcia has enjoyed a rich and diverse career starting with the hit TV show "Miami Vice" commissioning him to create a mural on the side of a three story building, and used his paintings for interior shots.

Apart from a growing number of private commissions, his distinctive images were commissioned by The United Nations Postal Administration in 1998 and 2003. His stamps brought awareness to the growing extinction of the rainforest and its inhabitants, and followed with the 50th Anniversary of the World Health Organization, bringing awareness to the vanishing supply of freshwater, where it earned him the prestige of the most beautiful stamp series of 2003.

Garcia was chosen as an "Absolut Artist of the 90s" in the popular vodka ad campaign and with his second piece Absolut Electric, this further drew worldwide attention.

1998, 1999, and 2001 garnered him the distinction of official artist to The Grammy Awards where his creations influenced the look of the live broadcast and graced the covers of the official program book, CDs, posters, apparel, and other various items. His work included portraits of stars such as Destiny's Child, Ricky Martin, Coldplay, Santana, Celia Cruz, Black Eyed Peas, Imogen Heap and Kanye West. His life long passion of thoroughbred racing tapped him in 2008 to be the official artist of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Festival.

Rick's association with the famous Gibson Custom Shop brand spawned a collection of highly collectable one of kind painted guitars. Quickly these guitars sold soon after completion and Rick is currently trying to add more to the collection as time will allow. His most recent work on guitars was painting a 1954 Gibson Les Paul reissue for The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and a 50th Anniversary issue of the Gibson SG for CANCER RESEARCH U.K.

DALIP KRYEZIU
DIARIES & FACES
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5
5:00pm to 9:00pm

Picture
On Friday, October 5th, DALIP KRYEZIU will be in attendance at the premier showing of his avant garde, post modern paintings  in the United States at Hilton | Asmus Contemporary in Chicago.

An established artist in the gallery circuit in Austria, Germany and Denmark, Dalip has consistently proven to be the collector's choice with his modern lyricism.

Dalip’s palette combines elements of abstract expressionism mixed with post modern, avant garde strokes of color that plunges deep into the subconscious.  His favorite artist, Jean Dubuffet, brought him up from the machinations of Art Brut to hints of George Baselitz, Picasso and Cy Twombly, all rolled into one canvas.  In the end, Dalip’s paintings are supremely Dalip.  His mind, like his art, is an obsessive study in feeling and being an “artiste.”

Dalip Kryeziu was born 18 June 1964 in Bubavec/Kosovo. He uses his first name Dalip as his pen-name. His childhood was spent in a large rural extended tribal family. After elementary school, his entire family moved to Klina where he attended secondary school.

From the age of 11, Dalip began to draw under the influence of his uncle, an academic painter.   During a summer stay in Porec he met with a portrait painter who strengthened his decision to become an artist.  After his education at the teacher training college in Gjakova and the English University in Prishtina, he traveled throughout Europe earning his living with portraiture.

In 1988 Dalip moved to Austria and soon after acquired Austrian citizenship.  In 1989 he became a Member of the Association of Austrian Painters.  Two years later he was shown in various exhibitions in Austria and soon thereafter in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg.

Dalip’s work has been represented in many international Exhibitions such as the Biennale Internazionale dell`Arte Contemporanea in Florence 1997, the “Arte Fiera Cornice“ in Venice 2007 and the Prague Biennale 2009.

His avant-garde, post modern style has garnered him recognition by collectors and museums throughout Europe.

Since 2006, Dalip has lived in Frankfurt am Main. His work is in the following collections:

Museum der Moderne Salzburg
Oberhessisches Museum Gießen

Guggenheim Foundation
Allianz Hamburg
Deutsche Bank
Crédit Suisse
