SEMRAÖZÜMERZIFON (Turkish - )
Born in Istanbul, Semra Özümerzifon graduated from Robert College in 1970. Moving to Switzerland in 1980, she attended Geneva Academy of Fine-Arts (1981-1984) studying painting and drawing in the workshops of Axel Ernst and Pascal Saini. She has had many individual exhibitions in Europe, including international art fairs. She has won numerous awards at international art competitions in France and Italy and was attributed the titles of “Associate Academician” and “Academic Knight” by the International Academy Greci-Marino and Academy of Verbano.
In her most recent series of works, Özümerzifon focuses on the use of fisherman's nets to create water movement in three-dimensional compositions. She uses the natural colors of the nets. Nothing is painted or altered. Keeping the infusion of energy and history of the fisherman in her sculptures, Özümerzifon chronicles the lyricality of one of the most important waterways in the world, the Bosphorus.
