Title: Surrealist Angel (ANGE SURREALISTE)
Medium: Cast Bronze
Dimensions: 74 x 38 22 cm
Edition size: 450 cast in 2004
Angels, was a theme Dali was particularly fond of. Dali painted an angel on canvas in 1977 and, in the 80s, gave it a threedimensional form whose unusual texture – a velvety brownblack bronze – underlines its elegant strength. The surrealistic angel has a surprising, almost feminine, sensuality. This is a spellbinding sculpture in a very lyrical line.
A wax model of the Surrealistic Angel was created from Salvador Dali’s paintings at the Dali Museum in Figueras.
These models for the Surrealistic Angel and the Cubist Angel were done by M. Thévenin and corrected by Dali.
In 1992, enlargements of the originals were made by a Dali craftsman in Verona (Fonderia Bonvicini), and controlled by Robert Descharnes. These were based on the wax model and Dali’s painting.
The multiple cast (76 x 8 x 22 cm) is a reduction of the original made in Verona and controlled by Robert Descharnes.
450 multiple bronze sculptures were cast.
The signature « Salvador Dali » and the numbering are located on the right buttock.
